Position Overview

Upper Lakes Foods, Inc. is looking for a Driver Supervisor in Northfield, MN to manage the daily duties of all delivery staff, maintain records required by Upper Lakes Foods, Inc. as well as the Department of Transportation (DOT).  The successful candidate will collaborate with all ULF departments to promote continuous improvement within the Transportation department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in hiring drivers
  • Conduct road tests with driver candidates
  • Provide proper training to new hires
  • Manage schedule and dispatch drivers daily
  • Work with the logistics department to ensure efficient routing, while meeting customer expectations
  • Perform driver audits, document and keep in driver’s files
  • Schedule drug tests and DOT health exams
  • Maintain proper documentation when required
  • Schedule and perform driver’s annual review
  • Monitor the driver’s daily duties and performance
  • Ensure all ULF and (DOT) driver paperwork is filled out properly
  • Create benchmarks for drivers to ensure they are performing at high levels
  • Be available to receive phone calls from drivers when away from work
  • Work with Human Resources on facilitating a progressive disciplinary process
  • Read, understand and analyze daily, weekly and monthly operational reports. Use these reports to evaluate department’s performance
  • Compute figures to accurately plan/adjust headcount to meet department’s objectives
  • Monitor and evaluate safe work practices
  • Handle customer service issues and provide resolutions

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid Class A CDL, preferred
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Working knowledge of all Department of Transportation regulations (DOT) & H.O.S.
  • Experience with routing and driver scheduling in a daily food delivery process preferred
  • Exceptional organization and motivational skills
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Must work or be available on weekends and holidays
  • Possess a sense of urgency to work in a deadline driven environment
  • Customer service orientated
  • Possess initiative to work with minimal instruction and direction

Required Certifications and Licenses: Class A CDL, preferred

Physical Demands

The Driver Supervisor must write, speak and understand English. This position may require sitting long hours and repeated keyboarding. The Driver Supervisor is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
